To remove a program from Windows, the most common
way that computer users choose is the "Add/Remove Program" tool
provided by Microsoft Windows. You can use this feature by clicking
on the "Start" menu and selecting "Control Panel". Inside the
Control Panel click on "Add/Remove Programs" which will list all the
programs installed on your computer. Select the program you want to
remove and click on "Remove" to uninstall the program.
Some programs have their own uninstall feature available. Click on
"Start", select "All the programs", locate and click on the program
name you want to remove. If the program provides an uninstall
option, you can just click on it to remove the program from your
computer.
However, even after you use "Add/Remove Program" or the program
uninstall option, still there might be files or data left by the
program on your computer.
l Program
installation directory
Sometimes uninstalling a program will not remove the program's
installation directory. You can right click on the program's
shortcut to locate the installation directory and remove it manually
from Windows Explorer.
l Program
names in "Add/Remove Program"
If after uninstall, the program name still appears in "Add/Remove
Program", you can click on "Start" -> "Run" -> input "regedit" to
open the registry editor on your computer. Locate
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SoftwareMicrosoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Uninstall"
and select the program name from the right-hand side list to delete.
l Registry
keys related to the program
In most cases, the registry keys related to the program will not be
automatically cleaned during program uninstall. To completely remove
these junks, you can open registry editor and use the search
function to list all the related registry keys to remove.
